El Molino is from the same guys behind Trapiche who make incredible single vineyard top-end Malbecs - I visited them in 2017 and was blown away. Delighted to now have the wine on our shelves.
If there's one red grape and region that has really grown in stature over the last ten years, it has to be Malbec from Argentina. Its dependability and flexibility with food pairings make it a firm NBHW favourite.
While Malbec is originally from France, Argentina's unique combination of high altitude, dry climate, and free-draining soils provides the perfect conditions for Malbec wines with intense flavours, deep colours, and smooth tannins.
Bodegas La Rosa has been a Malbec specialist in Mendoza for over 100 years; today, it's known for producing great wines using both traditional winemaking techniques and modern technology. Their El Molino range offers an unbeatable quality-to-price ratio, and the Gran Reserve is a perfect example of this.
El Molino Gran Reserve Malbec is beautifully rich with aromas of dark berries and spices and a full-bodied palate with firm tannins and flavours of black cherry, plum, and dark chocolate. A long and complex finish leaves a hint of black pepper and tobacco.
The real joy of these wines is that they go with such a wide range of food. Everything from pizza or pasta, right up to a juicy burger or full Sunday roast. Great wine at this price is increasingly a rarefied pleasure!
