Domaine du Vieux Pressoir dates back to 1892 and was a key player in the creation of the Saumur appellation in the 1930s as well as more recently the smaller appellation of Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame in 2009, which itself has been a winegrowing village since the thirteenth century. Claude Vagnon bought the estate in 2015, with its twenty-six hectares of Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay.
A wine of finesse and elegance, its fine bubbles come from a second fermentation in the bottle using the traditional method. The Chardonnay imparts depth and complexity for the overall balance while the Chenin Blanc lends citrus and hints of honey for a creamy texture. The wine develops a beautiful complexity of aromas and lovely volume, the generous nose of fleshy pear and peach, and notes of toasted brioche.
