This is a sophisticated Bordeaux that is ready to drink. The palate is plush, full of bluebrry and cassis fruit. The tannins add bite and complexity, keeping everything in its place. Long, juicy and silky, it opens nicely in the glass. Spicy, lightly smoky and plenty of black fruit on the fininsh.
A very forward style with a touch of underlying grip and a mineral flourish. Amazing value vintage, this is an extremely drinkable St Estèphe.
Château Capbern is in St Estèphe and it has shared ownership with Calon Ségur since 2012. The vineyards are on typical St Estèphe soil, in a single block between Phélan Ségur and Meyney. 2016 captures the essence of Bordeaux, along with everything that is great about the vintage. Capbern 2016 has easily the potential to age for another five years, though is already drinking very well now.
