Château Phélan Ségur is one of Saint-Estèphe's top estates, proudly overlooking the Gironde estuary. Its origins date back to the 19th century, when it was owned by Bernard Phélan, a wine merchant of Irish origin who settled in Bordeaux at that time. When he died in 1841, his son Frank Phélan took over the management of the property. The estate's wines, then as now, are regarded for their natural freshness, purity of fruit & silky tannins.
The colour of the 2015 is bright garnet with ruby highlights. The nose blends fruity fragrances (strawberry, cherry) with subtle notes of liquorice and smoke. Finally, on the palate, the texture is tender and lush, a wonderful balance struck between its powerful tannins, its rich concentration, and its uplifting acid.
"This has an air of authority with pristine red fruits, cassis and leafy aromas that lead to a palate with a powerful core of fine, long and fresh tannins. Plenty of ageing potential here. Try from 2025." - James Suckling, 94 Points.
