Château Phélan Ségur is one of Saint-Estèphe's top estates, proudly overlooking the Gironde estuary. Its origins date back to the 19th century, when it was owned by Bernard Phélan, a wine merchant of Irish origin who settled in Bordeaux at that time. When he died in 1841, his son Frank Phélan took over the management of the property. The estate's wines, then as now, are regarded for their natural freshness, purity of fruit & silky tannins.
The Château Phélan Ségur 2019 combines freshness and power. There is a complexity of aromas and flavours, notably ripe fruits (cherry, black-current & blackberries), coupled with toasted and liquorice notes. This harmonious blend remains in tension thanks to a beautiful freshness on the finish. Overall a generous vintage with exceptional tannic power supported by a volume of rare density.
"This is a very classically structured Bordeaux with blackcurrant, walnut, cedar and hints of toasted oak. It’s reserved now, but shows very serious, polished tannins. Persistent and powerful with fantastic length. Very precise." - James Suckling, 96 Points.
